[ARTICLE] Billboard #1 for 9 Weeks, New Zealand Singer-Songwriter Lorde Likes 2NE1 & Lee Hi

KPOP is much more charming than Western pop music.”   America has fallen for the New Zealand teen, Lorde. The 17 year old singer song writer’s track “Royals” from her debut album “Pure Heroine”, is currently in its 9th week as the number one song on the USA Billboard charts. Even Eminem and Lady Gaga were unable to stop her streak.

Though her simple heavy base and drum as well as her slow, low melody have a strange addicting charm, her song’s true asset is its lyrics. “We’ll never be royals. It don’t run in our blood, that kind of luxe just ain’t for us, we crave a different kind of buzz.” She shows cynicism for the luxurious lives of the high ups, showing a premature side unassociated with her age.

[Omitted portions of the article on how Lordes came up with her song ‘Royals’= Her mother’s a poet, started singing at age 12, habitually began to study music, puts her story into her songs, made ‘Royals’ in 30 minutes, etc.]

When told she had a style different than other teen artists she said, “[describes how she’s different]… If there is one other thing, my dancing skills are the worst! (Laughs) I should get dance lessons from ‘Girls Generation’.”

With the mention of GG, Lordes revealed to have a lot of interest in KPOP. In the UK Music magazine “NME”, she spoke in an interview that she’d like to collaborate with a Korean girl group. When asked who, she told them, I like Lee Hi and 2NE1.”, and sang a snippet of Lee Hi’s “1,2,3,4”.

She continued, “I like KPOP because the tunes and songs are interesting to listen to. It’s [KPOP] much more charming than the western pop I grew up with.”   When told she had a lot of Korean fans, she left a greeting, “Next year, I plan to make an appearance in Japan, and if I have the chance I’d really like to go and meet you all. I hope you enjoy this album and that the music will be special to you.”
